John Blake (deafhope) > Shown on the left is Dorothy Watts with Pastor Jeff Jordan, when Pastor's Blake and Jordan first arrived in India on a Deaf Ministry trip in 2002. Dorothy Watts, Associate Secretary of the Southern Asia Division of SDA, is also the director for SDA deaf ministry in India. If it were not for her heartfelt interest in Deaf Ministry, there would be little or no SDA ministry to deaf people in India. In 2006 she got a form of cancer near her brain, was operated on, and has had treatment. We are praying that God will keep the cancer from returning! Pastor Jordan has twice been to India in deaf ministry - both in 2002 and the fall of 2005. During his last trip, over 100 deaf were baptized. We are so thankful for what God is doing through His Spirit and the lay deaf ministry workers who are daily working for deaf in India.
John Blake (deafhope) > On the right is Mr. Meshak (deaf) who for many years worked to share his faith with other deaf in the Thanjavur area of India. He is shown here sitting with deaf friends in his living room in 2002 where you can see visual aid on the wall that he used to help share his faith. In 2002 Brother Meshak saw a dream come true, a full time pastor for the deaf in his area and a new church built just for deaf. Though extremely weak, with help Meshak was able to cut the ribbon opening the first church ever built just for the deaf in the SDA church. Meshak died shortly after. Sathiyamoorthy says that when he came to Thanjavur area in 1998 to begin a ministry to deaf, he did not really know what to do, but Meshak helped him, and soon there was a baptism of 18 deaf people.
John Blake (deafhope) > Left is Sathiyamoorthy who was our first pastor for deaf in India. He began working in 1998 in Thanjavur. Beside him is the present Pastor, Manikaraj. From the humble beginning in 1998 the work force has grown from one and is heading toward the 30 mark. There have been close to 700 deaf baptized since 1998. We praise God for what HE has done and is doing to take the gospel to deaf in India! Sathiyamoorthy, though now working as a hearing pastor in the Bangalore area, is also working there in ministry to deaf. For 16 years Sathiyamoorthy had been a deaf beggar on the streets of India until he found Christ, trained as a pastor, and had an operation allowing him to hear some again.
John Blake (deafhope) > Some of the workers for the deaf sponsored by Gospel Outreach in India. In this picture 4 are deaf themselves, and three are hearing. The older man in the white, Pastor Rao, is the area supervisor. As of June 2007, we are in the process of expanding from about 20 to about 30 workers - mostly sponsored by Gospel Outreach USA and Gospel Outreach Canada.
John Blake (deafhope) > As far as we know, this is the first Seventh-day Adventist church in the world ever built just for deaf - at Thanjavur in South Inda. The first pastor, Sathiyamoorthy, is standing by the front step, and the present pastor, Manikaraj, has his hand on the wall by the door.

John Blake (deafhope) > It's meal time and this beautiful young lady is enjoying her meal of rice and a number of other spicy or sweet add-ins that suit her taste and culture. All the group are eating with their fingers - which is proper Indian culture style! This young lady is one of our new deaf lady Lay Bible workers for the deaf in India.
John Blake (deafhope) > Pastor Manikaraj, interpreting Dr. Rao's talk for the Deaf group on the Ministry of Jesus at Thanjavur in South India. There are three people working with the deaf in this area.
John Blake (deafhope) > Pastor Fred Griffith, a pastor for the Deaf (whose parents are deaf) from California, met Pastor Blake (of the Gospel Outreach Deaf Dept.) in Germany, and they flew together to India to meet with deaf in January, 2007
